Today, January 22, 2022, Techpoint Build 2021 ends in grand style with the Pitchstorm 3.0 winner announcement.

The Ghanaian-founded agritech startup, Worldtech Consult successfully made it through three elimination stages to win a $10,000 non-equity fund, the second since the competition started in 2019. Founded by Paul Siabi Senaye, the startup provides solar-powered storage facilities for small-scale farmers and petty farmers.

Forcardio and Ugandan-founded Dokitar, that emerged runners-up in the health category also went home with ₦1 million and ₦2 million courtesy 54 gene, one of Techpoint Build 2021 sponsors.

Recall that Estate Intel, a real estate startup, won the maiden edition of the competition in 2019. The startup has since recorded admirable growth.

Following a call for exciting tech innovations across West Africa, this edition received 149 entries. Although most of the entries were from Nigerian startups, companies from Uganda, Ghana, Zambia, Kenya, and Burkina Faso also made the list.

After an editorial review, the entries were shortlisted to 15 semifinalists, 12 of which made it to a three-day bootcamp held in Lagos, where they had access to training and practice sessions.

On the last day of the bootcamp, seven startups were selected from a pitch contest to proceed to the final stage, where a group of independent judges — that are industry experts in edtech, agritech, healthtech, and media tech — assessed their pitches during the Techpoint Build 2021 event.

Pitchstorm is Techpoint Africa’s annual startup competition, where we learn about new and exciting solutions to Africa’s problems while rewarding the solution providers for their innovative ideas.
