Didas Uwiragiye, the fallen father of Tycoon Caesor Augustus Mulenga has left his life savings worth Shs 500million to the Church in Kisoro District.
This was revealed by Mulenga, the Vietnamese Consular General in Uganda, during the funeral service held at St. Peters Gisoro Catholic Church in Kisoro Municipality.
Mulenga told mourners that before his father died, he had saved Ugx 500M and had requested that when he dies all the money should be donated to the church.
During the mass, Mulenga handed part of the money (Shs100m) to Gisoro Catholic church and added that the remainder was to be used to renovate his home church of Busamba catholic church.
The tycoon also pledged 500 iron sheets to roof catholic churches in Mutolere denary and another 50 million shillings to Muslims.
“I want all the money that my father left behind to have been spent by Easter next year so that we can close that account,” he said.
President Yoweri Museveni in his condolence message delivered by ICT Minister of Minister Chris Baryomunsi, praised the deceased and his son for the work they have done to support the communities in Kisoro.
President Museveni also commended the family for supporting the NRM party.
The send-off mass was also attended by former Chief Justice Bart Katureebe, foreign affairs Minister Okello Oryem, MPS and local leaders.
Didas Uwiragiye succumbed to cancer on Saturday at Nakasero hospital in Kampala.
He was aged 81 years.
He is survived by 14 children, 44 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
His body was later laid to rest at Busamba in Chahi sub county Kisoro district.
