Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) will hold an inaugural girl-focused camp from Tuesday November 23rd – Saturday 27th dubbed “Her World, Her Rules”.
The campaign is the Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA) most recognized women’s initiative stemming from strategic objective to increase participation of women in the sport.
The camp will take place at Childcare Primary School in Kitgum district, Northern Uganda and it will be implemented by Score Beyond Leadership a non-profit organization that imparts leadership skills through sport to women with the support of UNICEF.
The camp aims at introducing basketball skills to a target group of 100 girls between the ages of 6-15 years and impart life skills that will boost their confidence to enable them present themselves as competitive individuals in the community.
“FUBA is honored to have been selected by FIBA to run this program in Uganda, as any campaign to stimulated young girls to play basketball or just sport is great,” Sandra Munduru Ulanga, Commissioner for Women’s Basketball at FUBA said.
In partnership with UNICEF, the UNICEF life skills toolkit will be used to conduct the life skills sessions with the girls. The camp is expected to impact over 100 girls, 10 female basketball coaches and 10 female basketball referees and officials.
Activities of the program will include basketball skills training, 3X3 games and training of trainers courses for officials, referees and coaches.
