Qazi Muzammil Ahmed, the person who conducted Sameer Wankhede’s first marriage, said the tweet by NCP leader Nawab Malik over the officer’s name and caste certificate is true.

“The nikah nama is true. It has my signature. Each and everyone, from Sameer to his family, were Muslims when the nikah happened. If he wasn’t a Muslim, the nikah would not have happened.

Qazi Muzammil Ahmed added that the marriage had taken place in 2006. “The marriage had taken place in a single garden and there were many high-profile guests.”

“I made all the arrangements and read the nikah nama in 15 minutes,” said Qazi Muzammil Ahmed.

“The marriage was done with complete Islamic rituals. Had I known Sameer was a Hindu, I would not have done the marriage. In Sharia law, such marriages are not valid,” said Qazi.

Qazi Muzammil Ahmed went on to add that Sameer Wankhede, his whole family, relatives, advocates and witnesses, were all Muslims during the marriage.

Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik said his focus was not raising the religion of Sameer Wankhede but to expose the fraudulent means by which the NCB officer obtained a caste certificate.

Addressing a press conference, Nawab Malik said, “I want to make it clear that the issue I am exposing of Sameer Dawood Wankhede is not about his religion. I want to bring to light the fraudulent means by which he has obtained a caste certificate to get an IRS job and has deprived a deserving Scheduled Caste person of his future.”

Nawab Malik also shared a copy of the “nikah nama” of Sameer Wankhede’s first marriage with Dr Shabana Qureshi and related photos. “Photo of a sweet couple Sameer Dawood Wankhede and Dr. Shabana Qureshi,” Nawab Malik said in another post on Twitter.

“If they are saying that the caste certificate tweeted by me is false, then they should show the real one. I have blurred the names of the witnesses so as not to impact their identity. The certificate I have tweeted is the official document from BMC. The law says that if a person converts to another religion, then he ceases to get benefits of caste,” Nawab Malik further said.
