Scores of fans gathered at Bengaluru’s Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Friday evening to pay their final tribute to Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar, who passed away at the age of 46 after suffering a heart attack earlier in the day. His mortal remains were shifted to the stadium for public viewing.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai was present at the stadium on Friday evening, along with other eminent personalities.
The last rites will be conducted at Kanteerava Studio on Sunday with full state honours, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai informed on Friday.
Meanwhile, the police in Bengaluru have directed all the liquor shops in the city to remain closed for two nights as a “precautionary measure”. Intensive patrolling is being conducted to ensure no untoward incident occurs, the police said.
CONDOLENCES POUR IN
Throughout the day, condolences from various quarters have been pouring in for Sandalwood actor Puneeth Rajkumar, who was also a philanthropist, singer, television presenter and producer.
PM Modi said “a cruel twist of fate has snatched away from us a prolific and talented actor”.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai tweeted that he was “deeply shocked” by the news of film star Puneeth Rajkumar’s death.
Sonu Sood took to his Twitter handle and expressed that he is heartbroken. “Heartbroken. Will always miss you my brother. #PuneethRajkumar (sic),” he tweeted.
Former Indian cricketers Virender Sehwag and Anil Kumble led the cricket fraternity’s tributes to the Puneeth Rajkumar.
“Saddened to hear about the passing away of Puneeth Rajkumar,” wrote Virender Sehwag. Anil Kumble tweeted, “Shocked and deeply saddened on the passing of Puneeth Rajkumar.”
