Between the 11th and 14th of November, Tooro Kingdom will host the first edition of what is to become an annual event with a vision to elevate the profile of the Kingdom of Tooro into an international cultural, tourism destination and diversify the product offer of Fort Portal Tourism City.
The ‘Ekyooto Ha Mpango’ festival is designed to create opportunities for youth in the region in the areas of Tourism, Agro business, finance and investment and art.
Contrary to speculations that the Festival might sideline Tooro artistes in favour of big names from the Central, the event organizers have revealed to ChimpReports that the ‘Ekyooto Ha Mpango’ festival has already booked several artists from the Tooro region including Ayesiga Muzamil, Kigambo Araali, Tony Blackman, Carol Kay, Draei , Home of Talent, Tai Tan, Sagio Muhza and Harubengo School of Culture among others.
The list also includes some of Tooro region’s musical exports such as Aziz Azion, Beenie Gunter, DJ Kas Baby, Miss Elite Africa- Judith Heard and event host Cynthia Tumwine Kawamara.
Additionally, for the artists in the land, the festival will have a mobile studio running for 3 days, giving fresh talent an opportunity to record and have their music produced by industry experts. Young producers will also have a chance to learn and work with professionals to develop their skills.
“Together with partners, we invite the people of Tooro to warmly embrace these opportunities that align with Vision 2045 whose theme is “A better life and prosperity for the people and kingdom of Tooro,” the organizers said.
The Ekyooto Ha Mpango Cultural and Tourism festival was launched by His Majesty Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV to celebrate the diversity of Ugandan cultures and heritage, with a focus on the uniqueness of the beautiful Tooro culture.
The primary goal of the festival is to kick start domestic tourism in the Tooro region after the covid-19 pandemic.
