VIDEO: Ex VP SSekandi Showers Retirement Car with Beer

Former Vice President, Edward Ssekandi, has welcomed his new retirement vehicle in style.

Ssekandi received the Toyota Land Cruiser brand SUV worth Shs 400m at Pope Paul Memorial Centre in Lubaga this past Friday.

Ssekandi, who was enjoying his beer with friends, could not hide his excitement.

He invited his friends to shower the car with beer. 

A video circulated online shows Ssekandi joining the group to shower the car’s tyres with Bell Beer. 

Other senior government officials who have received such executive retirement vehicles include former Vice President Prof Gilbert Bukenya and the late Apollo Nsibambi.

The vehicle is part of Ssekandi’s retirement benefits from government.

Public Service Ministry Permanent Secretary Catherine Bitarakwate Tusingwire. Recently said the vehicles are also aimed at honoring services rendered to the country by retirees.

According to article 108(a) of the Constitution former leaders including Presidents, Vice Presidents and Prime Ministers are entitled to money for a house, a government car with a paid driver, and servicing plus a guard also paid by government as part of their retirement benefits.

The former VIPs are also entitled to a monthly salary until death.

Ssekandi, 79, served eighth Vice President of Uganda from 24 May 2011 to 21 June 2021.

Prior to that, he served as the Speaker of Parliament from 2001 to 2011.

He served as Member of Parliament for Bukoto County Central constituency from 1996 to 2021.
