President Paul Kagame has appointed Emmanuel Ugirashebuja as Rwanda’s Justice Minister as Attorney General.
Ugirashebuja previously served as President of East African Court of Justice.
He replaces Johnston Busingye, who was recently demoted and sent to United Kingdom as High Commissioner.
The Cabinet appointment was made by Rwanda’s Prime Minister, Edouard Ngirente on Friday evening.
UK’s Deputy Prime Minister, Dominic Raab, was recently petitioned to block the appointment of Busingye in London for his alleged role in detaining government critic, Paul Rusesabagina.
Ugirashebuja is a Dean Emeritus of the National University of Rwanda, Faculty of Law.
Dr. Ugirashebuja served as Dean of the Law School of the University of Rwanda from 2009-2014, and Legal Advisor at the Rwandan Constitution Commission from 2001-2003.
He is also a member of the Governing Board of the International Association of Law Schools.
