Makindye West Member of Parliament, Allan Ssewanyana has been charged with a new count of murder, bringing the total number of counts to seven, including; terrorism and abetting terrorism.
In the new charge, it is alleged that on August 4, 2021, Ssewanyana killed a one Bwanika Joseph of Kisekka B Village, Kankamba Parish, Lwengo District.
Ssewanyana and his Kawempe North counterpart, Mohammed Ssegirinya have for weeks been behind bars on accusations of murders that horrified the greater Masaka area recently.
President Museveni blamed the murders on opposition politicians and later the police in Masaka summoned Ssewanyana and Ssegirinya for questioning.
The two would be arrested, and remanded.
Their lawyers led by Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago applied for bail which was granted by Court at fee of 20 million shillings each on September 20th.
Last Thursday, September 23, Ssewanyana was released from Kigo prison, but shortly rearrested by heavily armed security operatives as he walked out of the prison gate.
On Monday September 27, his lawyer Erias Lukwago announced that Ssewanyana had been slapped with a new count of murder, bringing the number of counts to seven.
“He (Ssewanyana) has been charged with a new count of murder, bringing the total number of counts to seven; 4 of murder, attempted murder, Terrorism and abetting Terrorism,” said Lukwago.
“In the new charge, it’s alleged that on the 4th day of August 2021, he killed a one Bwanika Joseph of Kisekka B Village, Kankamba Parish, Lwengo District. He remained in their custody and they were cagey on the next course of action. We had earlier on filed an application for habeas corpus which is pending hearing,” he added.
Lukwago said he managed to speak to Ssewanyana at the office of the I.O Det. ASP Matanzima at SIU Kireka, where he had been transferred for purposes of recording a new statement following his rearrest.
