Uganda Kickboxing Federation (UKF) on Tuesday named a provisional squad of 38 Pro-arm fighters to commence preps for 2021 World Championships earmaked for 18th – 24th October in Egypt.
The list of summoned athletes was revealed during the team’s pre-camp training at Golola Talents Academy in Kawempe- Lugoba on Tuesday afternoon.
The roster of 28 male and 10 female fighters will enter a residential camp on Saturday 25th September at Luzira Prisons training facility before the final traveling squad is revealed on 17th October.
Team coach Kato Isaac said that they “will converge in a residential camp to improve on the techniques. But I’m generally impressed with the fighters and we shall trim them to a sizeable squad of not less than ten for the final Championship.”
At the Championships in Cairo, the Pro-arm National Kickboxing team Uganda will compete in Five styles including the K1 style, Muay Thai, Low Kick, MMA and Full contact.
With financial woes lingering around the team’s campaign, Uganda’s face of kickboxing and world champion Golola Moses “Of Uganda” urged government to finance the team’s expenses prior to games proper.
“I am so humbled that the National Kickboxing team is here at Golola Talents Academy. Its an honour and that is why I have often asked Government to support my cause of the Academy and building a trianing centre…,
The motormouthed fighter added “…Luzira prison has given us a training facility for a month which can’t be enough. We still need support including air-tickets since National Council of Sports hasn’t come to our rescue.”
Uganda is among the over 45 nations worldwide confirmed for the World Kickboxing Championships alongside Argentina, Germany, Hungary, Austria, France, Portugal, hosts Egypt among others.
UKF president Patrick Luyoza alongside Chief Executive Officer Larry Mwebesa were the other VIP dignitaries present on the ceremony held under observance of Ministry of Health Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
