Daughters of former FRONASA war hero James Karambuzi are up in arms with their younger brother whom they accuse of hogging all the financial support the family has received from President Yoweri Museveni.
The late Karambuzi, who hailed from Kabale, was executed in 1973 on orders of President Idi Amin after being charged with treason.
He was shot dead in public along with David Kangyire who was a student at Kigezi College Butobere and Joseph Bitwari.
Karambuzi left behind a family of 10 children, whose mother also died of mental illness in the same year her husband was killed. Currently, only two daughters are what remains of this family.
In memory of Karambuzi, President Museveni built a 32 roomed commercial building in Kabale Municipality along Kabale – Katuna road to support the family.
However, Karambuzi sisters are now accusing their younger brother Happy Karambuzi of taking the entire building for himself.
These have since written to President Museveni asking him to intervene in the matter.
Constance Akankwasa, the eldest sister says their brother was also given a vehicle (Lorry) which he also took for himself, and that he never helps them whenever they ask him for financial assistance.
Annet Kenyangye, the younger sister said her brother has even refused to acknowledge her as part of the family because she was born after their father died.
In response, Happy Karambuzi asked his sisters to ”back off” his property saying that the building was given to him alone after he met President Museveni through former Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda and tabled seven different financial requests to the president.
Happy says the President “promised to help the sisters separately.”
When contacted, former State House Comptroller Lucy Nakyobe Mbonye who was directly in charge of monitoring the construction works explained that all biological children and grandchildren of the late Karambuzi were shareholders on the building and says the house was built to support the family of the late Karambuzi, and not an individual.
Nakyobe told us that she sent former Kabale RDC Darius Nandinda to settle the matter with the same guidance, and that Happy Karambuzi should stop claiming sole ownership of any presidential donations to the Karambuzi family.
She asked the aggrieved sisters to report the matter to the current Kabale RDC Godfrey Nyakahuma for assistance and report back to her in case the matter is not solved.
