Inspector General of Police Martin Okoth Ochola has promoted four Police officers who represented Uganda in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games.
The promoted are SPC Chemutai Peruth (Gold Medalist) who was promoted to the rank of Inspector of Police; AIP Chelangat Mercyline who is elevated Inspector of Police, Chemutai Immaculate from Corporal to Sergeant and Shida Renny who was elevated from Police Constable to Corporal.
Meanwhile the IGP also said he was following up on the impending promotion of two other Olympians Cheptegei Joshua (Gold and Silver Medalist) and his coach, Inspector of Police, (IP) Njia Benjamin, from the rank of Inspector of Police to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
These promotions are pending clearance from the Police Authority, which has the mandate of appointing and promoting gazetted officers.
In a statement, Ochola thanked the officers for the athletic excellence in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
“The letters appointing them will be handed over to them during the piping ceremony and in celebration of their achievement at Police Headquarters, whose arrangements are in place,” said Police spokesman Fred Enanga.
“The IGP continues to thank them for their historic win and achievements for the country and the Police Force as well. They are therefore being rewarded for the great success, prise and jubilation they brought to the institution and the country.”
