Uganda DanceSport Federation (UDSF) conduct will hold the inaugural Breaking For Gold regional qualifiers between 18th September to 30th October 2021 in the different districts across the country.
The qualification process will take center stage in the nine sub regions of Luweero, Wakiso, Kampala, Northern Uganda, Busoga, Mukono, Bugisu, Teso and Westnile.
From these qualifiers, the best four Breakers from each region (2 B-Boys and 2 B-Girls) will be selected for the national championship due in November.
According to UDSF General secretary Ssebuyungo Barnabas, the four teams to reach the semi-finals (4 B-Girls and 4 B-Boys) at the national level will represent Uganda in the Breaking For Gold Africa Continental Championship in South Africa.
However, the overall national champion (Winner B-Girl and B-Boy) will automatically qualify for this year’s World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) Breaking For Gold event in Paris – France on 4th December.
Ssebuyungo says “…those who will qualify for the national championship will start on their roadmap to the Olympics because it’s a four-year journey and whoever makes it to the continental championship earns points for qualifying to 2024 summer games in Paris.”
Therefore, the eight athletes to represent Uganda at the Africa Breaking For Gold championship in South Africa will join the process of attaining points for the Qualifiers to Olympic games.
“We shall be attaining these points for the next three years for each participating country and then in 2024, athletes who will be having the highest points will be partaking in the playoffs and then we go for the official qualifying for the games,” he added.
At the end of the African Championship, Uganda DanceSport Federation will embark on preparations for the World Urban Games scheduled for June next year in Birmingham.
At the moment, the federation is undergoing capacity building and developing judges who will oversee the local activities ahead and the list of successful adjudicators will be released midway through the week.
Entrance to the arenas will be restricted to only athletes poised to compete aged 16 years and above hence spectators won’t be granted access. The move aims at combating Covid-19 escalation.
