The body of Orthodox Archbishop Jonah Lwanga was not brought back in Uganda on Monday as per earlier plans which had been set by the Church together with the burial Organizing committee due to a number of reasons.
Addressing the press at the Orthodox Church in Namungoona on Monday, Rev John Kibuuka the chairperson of the burial committee revealed that the Government of Greece was still compiling a complete report about the cause of death, since the deceased was a diplomat who died on their soil.
“The issues surrounding the death of the Archbishop are being handled in Greece by the Country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as the Ministry of Health,” he said.
Kibuuka emphasized that the delay is to ensure that the post mortem once released, doesn’t contain discrepancies, for the good of the relationship between the two countries.
A week ago, Archbishop Lwanga who is one of the longest serving heads of Orthodox Church in Uganda passed away in Greece where he had gone for missionary work.
