• URA FC 2-1 Ethiopian Coffee
Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Football Club will take a 2-1 first leg lead to Ethiopia when they visit Coffee in the return leg fixture of the CAF Confederations Cup first preliminary round next week.
Speed merchant Steven Desse Mukwala scored a first half brace to hand the tax men a first leg victory at the St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende on Sunday.
William Solomon Tesfay consolation, however, brought the Ethiopians back in the equation.
Ethiopian Coffee dominated the first 20 minutes of the game with pace but were not effective in the final third before URA FC bossed the remaining duration of the first stanza with calmness, composure and steady pressure.
Derrick Ndahiro was a catalyst in the first goal after 23 minutes of play. He received from Shafik Kagimu on the left, curled the ball to Vianne Sekajugo who headed it across the goal for Mukwala to rise highest and nod home a stunning header on the far post.
14 minutes later, magical man Mukwala again sent the home team into wild celebrations. He pounced on a chest controlled ball from Sekajugo on the edge of the box and bundled home a stunning shot from a distance.
After the break, the Ethiopians injected in a little bit of urgency into their play and Abubaker Nasir failed to get a good shot on goal as Nafian Alionzi rushed out of his goal line to collect the ball.
In the 55th, William Solomon Tesfay caught URA FC napping and penetrated the defense before cutting on the deficit. He dribbed past Hudu Mulikyi, nutmeged Ndahiro and bundled home a low drive past stretching Alionzi.
Ethiopian Coffee would later capitalize on the consolation to gain momentum and confidence before launching a decent attempt from Ahmed which was kept out by Alionzi.
Midfielder Ivan Sserubiri would replace winger Sekajugo who seemed to have lost his mojo as captain Kagimu paved way for Joachim Ojera.
URA’s deputy captain Patrick Mbowa forced a fine save from Ethiopian goalie Abel Mamo Gebreyohas off a powerful distant shot as Kabon Living took over from Cromwell Rwothomio.
Ethiopian Coffee nearly got a respite from Yalem Debalke Endale who shot wide as the game became worry-some for the Ugandan continental ambassadors.
URA missed a chance to add on the tally for the third goal when forward Mukwala arrived late to connect Kabon Living decent pass which went begging at the death.
URA FC has a few days to reorganize and make amends when they fly out to Ethiopia for the second leg next Saturday, 18th September 2021 at the Bahir Dar International Stadium.
