At least 15 more supporters of the National Unity Platform party have been abducted by security forces in Mukono ahead of the voting date slated for January 14.
All the 15 coordinators were unearthed from their private homes in the dead of the night. “We were sleeping at about 23:00hrs before we heard unknown men calling out the name of my husband,” reveals the wife to one of the abducted NUP coordinator.
“They asked us to open the door but we refused. They opted to throw a teargas canister in the house till the plumes of irritating smoke compelled us to open for them. They pounced on my husband, beat him up and chained him as we pleaded for mercy. I was hit with a gun butt and I lost consciousness only to arise when they had left already,” she adds.
Important to note is that the president, Yoweri Museveni in his Sunday exclusive interview with the state owned New Vision paper, he called on the security forces to stop abducting civilians.
This however seems to have fallen on deaf ears because it is still the prevailing trend. The NUP party says most of its abducted people were preparing to work as polling agents for the presidential candidate Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert aka Bobi Wine.
Asked if they are aware of these abductions, the CID spokesperson Charles Twiine says they had received similar reports.
“We urge all families of the abducted people to reach out to us and we do the investigations,” he said.
Counsel Abdullah Kiwanuka however says all this is just sugar coated because the regime is the mastermind of these abductions but it pretends to play clean.
“We checked all police stations in Mukono but our people are no where to be seen,” he said. “We know they are behind these political persecutions,” he added.
