Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu also known as Bobi Wine on Tuesday called off his presidential campaigns after surviving being assassinated
The opposition leader on Tuesday was set to hold campaign rallies in Kayunga, Jinja and Kamuli district.
His rally in Kayunga was blocked by police and the military with no clear reason, in a scuffle with Wine’s supporters Police fired live bullets and teargas which left several of his team injured including personal music producer Dan magic left in a critical condition.
Kyagulanyi however was still determined and refused to back-off, He asked his team to continue to Jinja which was the second venue.
As usual, the police intercepted his convoy on the way and asked them to take rural routes not to use the main road. – Wine accepted.
However on the way, Police and the army surprisingly attacked the politician’s convoy and blocked him. when he asked for the reason, commanders insisted it was an order from above.
The former pop-star however resisted and told them he was mean’t to proceed for a rally in Jinja. Police in response fired teargas and live bullets at people around.
They went on and fired a direct shot to Bobi Wines windscreen which narrowly missed to hit Mityana MP Francis Zaake.
Police also shot down tires of Bobi Wine’s vehicle.
Following this incident , Bobi told Journalists that he was stack and couldn’t proceed to Jinja in such conditions.
He also said, he and his team will go to the electoral commission on Wednesday morning requesting for answers from the chairperson Justice Byabakama.
“We want Byabakama to tell us, who is in-charge of the election – Is it the electoral commission or The military and police” Bobi said while addressing the media
