Ugandan Opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has asked authorities to drop charges against Nigerian singer Omah Lay and free him immediately.
The former pop-star now a presidential candidate- Wine advised police to instead arrest the police and authorities that allowed the event to take place amidst the pandemic.
Nigerian Musicians Omah Lay, Tems , Their band were arrested and remanded to prison by Ugandan authorities for breaking COVID19 guidelines on Monday afternoon.
The arrest followed a fully packed event which happened on Ddungu beach in Kampala over the weekend where the duo performed breaking the COVID19 regulations.
However it cant be true that non of the concerned authorities knew about this event, the arriving of the artists, their performance and even security protection provided to the revellers .
Bobi Wine for this and more facts tasked the police and all concerned authorities to play fair cards
“The arrest of Omah Lay, the Nigerian artist is not about COVID19. It’s an act of shame by a corrupt government that operates on double standards.” Bobi Said
“The artist was booked, obtained a work permit and performed under police protection, why arrest him?”
“While some Ugandan artists are staging pro-Museveni shows with thousands of people in blatant violation of the same SOPs under the guard of police and the military, a foreign artist is persecuted to cover up the shame.”
Omah Lay and the team plus the event organiser Ddungu Ivan will return to court on Wednesday 16th December.
