JUST IN: Bobi Wine granted bail, Charged with Spreading COVID-19

IGANGA – National Unity Platform presidential flag bearer and party president Robert Kyagulanyi  alias Bobi Wine was on Friday  granted bail by the grade one magistrates court in Iganga district. 

The presidential candidate was bailed at Uganda shillings one million non cash while his two sureties and fellow legislators Paul Mwiru and Hon. John Baptist Nambeshe were bonded UGX 5 million non cash.

Bobi wine was taken at court on Tuesday afternoon , though the court was mean’t to seat in the morning at 10:00.

Before his arrival, there was heavy security deployment around the court. In and out, and no vehicles were allowed to access the premises apart from those belonging to court officials.

The former pop-star reached Iganga court amidst heavy security, a security convoy of more than 5 cars and lots of armed security officers from prisons, police and army.

Kyagulanyi was charged with, “Doing an act likely to spread an infection of disease under the penal code ACT rules of 13 and 17 of the public health (CONTROL OF COVID-19) rules 2020 section 1, Number 83.

When given a chance to speak, Bobi Wine told the magistrate that it is the people of Uganda under trial not him. 

The magistrate, her worship Josephine Nakato asked Bobi to adhere to the existing Covid-19 guidelines and run a scientific campaign that convenes strictly 200 social distanced attendants. 

“The accused being a presidential candidate must adhere to the guidelines set by the Electoral Commission and the SOPs Ministry of health,” she urged.
